Favorites to Win the 2021/2022 English Premier League Title

The English Premier League was established in 1992. it replaced the Football League First Division that was active from 1888 until its formal dissolution in 1992. While the most successful teams competing in the English Premier League do not win the biggest European and international tournaments as often as other European teams, the English Premier League is dubbed as the best, the toughest professional football league in the world.

Teams competing in the First Division believed that some radical changes must be made. Radical restructuring of the whole English professional football scene was also needed. In July of 1991, the Football League Founder Members Agreement was signed and this agreement set the foundation for the English Premier League. Next year in February, the English Premier League was founded separately from the First Division League.

Around the same time, twenty-two teams competing in the First Division League left it to join the newly established English Premier League. The English Premier League’s inaugural season kicked off on the 15th of August 1992.

Twenty-two clubs that left the First Division competed, including Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield United, Wimbledon, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday, Queen Park Rangers, Oldham Athletic, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Leeds United, Everton, Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town, Coventry City, Chelsea, Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa, and Arsenal.

What Happened During the Previous Season?

For the most part, matches of the English Premier League 2020/2021 were played without fans due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Like every other season of the biggest football league, there was no shortage of extremely exciting, very unpredictable matches. In the end, Manchester City was crowned the winner, finishing in first place with eighty-six points.

Manchester United was second-placed with seventy-four points followed by Liverpool with sixty-nine points, Chelsea with sixty-seven points, Leicester City with sixty-five points, West Ham with sixty-five points, Tottenham with sixty-two points, Arsenal with sixty-one points, Leeds United with fifty-nine points, and Everton with fifty-nine points.

One of the most exciting matches from the previous season was definitely Liverpool against Aston Villa played on the 4th of October. Before this extraordinary match, Tottenham scored six goals in a match against Manchester United.

The match between Aston Villa and Liverpool ended with Aston Villa scoring seven goals and Liverpool only two. Another great match played the previous season was between Tottenham and West Ham. Played on the 18th of October, the match ended in a tie.

When discussing the most interesting matches of the previous EPL season, we have to mention that one between Manchester United and Southampton that took place on the 2nd of February. Amazing Manchester United scored five goals in just twenty-one minutes and the match ended with United scoring a total of nine goals.

Manchester City played against Liverpool on the 7th of February. City scored four goals and won the match even though Phil Foden and Gündogan missed penalties.

Played on the 3rd of April, Chelsea clashed with West Brom. In the end, West Brom won with five goals in an unforgettable match. As already mentioned, Manchester City won its fifth EPL title last season and the team is one of the major favorites to win this season’s EPL title, alongside Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham.

Favorites to Win the 2021/2022 EPL Title

The thirtieth season of the English Premier League kicked off on the 13th of August 2021 and it will last until the 22nd of May 2022. As of the 9th of December, one hundred and forty-nine matches were played.

With thirteen goals, Mohamed Salah is the top goal scorer, followed by J. Vardy with nine goals, Diogo Jota with eight goals, Mane with seven goals, Silva with seven goals as well, Ronaldo with six goals. Son Heung-Min, Raphinha, Maupay, Dennis, Antonio, and Wilson also have six goals so far.

Manchester City is the defending champion and one of the major contenders for winning the EPL title this season. The team is in great shape, but it has a very tough competition, especially from two other major favorites for winning the title, Liverpool and Chelsea. Jack Grealish joined City at the beginning of this season. With superstars Kevin De Bruyne, Benjamin Mendy, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Bernardo Silva, and Rodrigo Hernandez, City can definitely repeat the success from the previous season.
As of the 9th of December, City is first-placed with thirty-five points thanks to eleven wins, two draws, and two losses. According to all major bookmakers, Chelsea is another favorite for winning the title.

The team signed the incredible Lukaku to play alongside Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulišić, Edouard Mendy, and Timo Werner. Chelsea is currently third-placed with thirty-three points, ten wins, three draws, and two losses.

Bookmakers are also favoring Liverpool alongside City and Chelsea. Jordan Henderson, Joe Gomez, and Virgil van Dijk are finally back in the game. The Reds also have amazing Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Harvey Elliott, Takumi Minamino, and Ibrahima Konate.
With thirty-four points, Liverpool is currently second-placed with ten wins, four draws, and one loss. Manchester United is also one of the favorites for winning the title, alongside Tottenham, Arsenal, and Leicester. Currently, United is sixth-placed with twenty-four points, Tottenham with twenty-five points is fifth-placed, and Arsenal is seventh-placed with twenty-three points.
