Brazil 's midfield general that dominated the late 80's through the mid to late 90's. A great passer with a fearsome right boot, who set up many scoring opportunities from the defensive midfield. He never enjoyed success playing for his clubs in Europe, but he enjoyed his greatest moments playing for his country. There, he shined and won the World Cup of 1994 and 2 Copa Americas alongside the likes of Ronaldo, Romario, Bebeto, Jorginho, Branco and his fierce defensive midfield partner Mauro Silva . With Aldair and either Ricardo Gomes or Marcio Santos behind him on defence, he and Mauro silva defended solidly while creating endless possibilities for the highly creative attack that also featured Careca and Rivaldo, at different times. Playing in front of him were fantastic attacking midfielders like Valdo, Silas, Zinho, and Mazinho. Dunga was considered as the least Brazillian of all. His tackling was strong and usually won every one on one contest. He resolved very well in the defensive situations and served as the outlet pass man that set up the attack. He let his strong personality show in the 1998 world cup where he lashed out at his teammate Bebeto on the field, during the match Brazil vs. Morrocco. However, Brazil won the game 3-0, and went on to become the eventual runners up to the hosts France . His nickname was "Swartzenegger" after the bodybuilder actor due to his stocky build and flat-top spikey hairdo. He always played to win, and was a fierce competitor, who singlehandedly defended against the likes of Ruud Gullit, Paul Gascoine, Roberto Baggio, Paolo Maldini, and Patrick Kluivert . If you want to learn some defence while learning to make decisive passing, watch an old game that featured this very tough player.
