St. Jakob Park Stadium Basel Switzerland
 

The original stadium, often called ‘Joggeli’, was first opened on 25 April 1954. Renovations took place from 1999 to 2001.

St. Jakob Park serves as the home ground to FC Basel. The football club were the first to play a match in the Stadium when it officially opened on 15 March 2001. A crowd of 33,433 football fans were present at the event.

St. Jakob Park Stadium has a seating capacity of 42,500 and a modern design with solar panels mounted on the building’s roof. The multifunctional sporting ground received a four star rating by UEFA and is the first of its kind in Switzerland. The design for the construction was even used as a model for the new Hypo Arena in Klagenfurt, Austria.

The construction cost for the improved UEFA Euro 2008 Stadium was approximately 220 million Swiss Francs. The multi-storey building features a shopping mall with 32 stores, restaurants and a car park.

Since its opening in 2001, the stadium has hosted a multitude of matches, amongst others it has entertained clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool during the UEFA Champions League and of course was one of the primary stadiums during the UEFA Euro 2008.

St. Jakob Park Stadium Travel

There are numerous ways to travel to the St. Jakob Park Stadium. The venue is located ten kilometers from EuroAirport and three kilometres from Basel city centre.

Basel Public Transport


The St. Jakob Park Stadium can easily be reached by taking a train, tram or bus. The stadium has its own train station.

Car

Basel has an excellent road network and St. Jakob-Park Stadium is clearly signposted. Taxis are always a good option. However, the city has an integrated network of car parks with a well-organized parking management system, so finding a parking spot for your car should not present a problem.

Cool pictures! thanks for the post! Do you have also pictures from the stadiums during the Euro ? Would be cool to see them! btw - the BEST stadium ever is without a question "Allianz Arena" we all know that:)
