Countdown to billions? - Footbo

Manchester City have now got some spending power, and it shouldn’t really be taken lightly. I am not expecting clubs to go crazy in the January transfer window, depression, financial meltdown and what not… But the fact is, City aren’t really tied into all that – we literally have billions!

So who should we buy? Can we really expect some of the world’s top players to follow in the footsteps of City’s “black maradona”? Will the likes of Messi or Kaka think that a move to the Eastlands Stadium be one that will take their careers forward?

Realistic options please… (and for all those non-City fans, please suppress the temptation to crack jokes!)

Peace

I think Messi and Kaka are not realistic for now. Not everyonw will only come for money as Rubinho did. There are two players from the German league that I would immediately buy: Diego and Ribery. They are some of the best players in the world and a bit less visible to the world because they "only" play in the German league. With the right money and the fact that they will play in a better league should make them go there.

It's a bit depressing that a great club like Man City can be owned by first a brutal and extremely dodgy (financially) former Thai PM followed by a royal family from the Middle East and nobody seems to mind who they are or what they've done as long as they bring in the players. Maybe I'm being unrealistic, but I can only test out my morals when my club gets a billionare investor... City look extremely weak, especially in central defence, but I'm enjoying watching them as the games as they're so open. Robinho is a great addition to the Premier League - him and Torres are really the first great players who've come to our league while iin their prime. The others have normally been old (Zola, Vialli) or rejected by other clubs (Henry, Cantona) or very young indeed (Ronaldo, Fabregas)
