The Meeko - Week 3 - Footbo
I just don't know where to start...
Firstly in terms of football results I didn't see the games last weekend but from what I've read and heard Chelsea boss Scolari seemed short of ideas when his team dropped 2 points to a Spurs side intent on getting themselves off the bottom of the premiership. Could it finally be coming together for Ramos?
I watched the Arsenal game though and we totally destroyed Newcastle, again Almunia didn't have much to do and I really think if Denilson comes of age this season and Diaby keeps fit we might be in with a chance... nice to see Van Persie back to his old self and unfortunately that includes getting injured!
Without Torres and Gerrard, Liverpool look lightweight up front, a lot hinges on Reira's adjustment to the English game and Robbie Keane getting on the scoresheet. United got a good win down at Fratton Park, I can't believe Fletcher scored again! It can't go on... can it? And the sky blues travelled to Sunderland to take 3 points in style. I think Keano will be able to rally the team for next weeks away game at the JJB but I don't give them much hope coming away from Bruce's improving Wigan side with much.
To carry on the theme of ex-United players, Sparky has landed on his feet at City! What an incredible transfer deadline day saga. Monday 1st September not only saw the Abu-Dhabi United Group buy up Manchester City and state that City boss Mark Hughes had a transfer kitty of over £250 million but they also made a statement that has shocked the Premiership. They signed Robinho for a reputed £32m on a 160,000-a-week deal and released a statement that they would like Cristiano Ronaldo and would pay anything to get him (even up to £132m!!)... What is football in this country coming to?! The lad Robinho barley made 60 starts in 3 years at Los Blancos and only scored something like 14 goals! He plays the same position as the impressive Petrov and I'm sure Mark Hughes wouldn't have had this player on his list! OK, so they wanted to make a statement and let the big 4 know that a new player was in town but this is making a mockery of the beautiful game... its just like their playing Championship Manager! I expect we'll hear a lot more about City this season and no doubt more players will come in... there's talk of the new owners wanting a top 4 finish this season. Can Hughes manage this? And if not, what would happen to him? Is Hughes the sort of manager these rich investors want to see in charge?
Berbatov moved to United <yawn> and was it worth all the bun fights that occurred in the inevitable lead-up to the move? NO!! What a waste of all of our times. I don't think Fergie saved any money in the end. But he has got a creative genius in Dimitar and United now pose the biggest threat I think.
Curbishley has left West Ham... most Hammers fans seem pleased but from what I've heard he's left because he's been undermined and that's a shame, after all they've taken 6 points out of 9 already this season.
Good luck to England next week, let's hope Carragher's comments in his recent biography spark some life into the players. That I think will be the only positive! Can you put bets on whether players will get boo-ed or not, cos I fancy Cara's chances against City next weekend.
PS - I hope Mike Ashley sells up soon!

Is the football we all love to watch still a game or a business. I mean with the Arabs taking over Man City, it all seems out of place now. Money's flying about everywhere. I know there was Abramovic but this is getting insane. How long before it costs a weeks salary to attend a football game? The week in football was quite exciting to watch. Some good football played. I was impressed by Amr Zaki and he seems to have all the quality's to become a great player for the premiership. Not long before Man City put a 20 million price tag on his head. XD Only questionable thing I have is, does Wenger have enough cover in the middle. Would Denilson be able to handle the pressure playing against the likes of Inter, Madrid, Barca in the Champion's League? Does he have enough quality to match United or Chelsea in the middle of the pitch? I think wenger should have got some experience in there or offered the slot back to Gilberto to hold him from leaving. I have this gut feeling that position will be hollow now that Fla-Money's gone.

Interesting points that you have made. I personally am a City fan and am wondering about all the things that you mentioned about us. On one hand, its great that we seem to now have some genuine money to put into improving our squad. Though, it seemed that way with Thaksin until he hit into some personal problems. If the new owners are going to do as Abromovitch did with Ranieri, Mourinho and Grant and give them 1 or 2 seasons to win the Champions League before sacking them then I am not happy. I love Sparky and I think he will do a great job for us if he is given time, money (which shouldnt be a problem now) and is allowed to run it in his own way.

I reckon Sven was doing a great job at City. Brought in some top class signings for a pretty decent amount. His sacking was uncalled for. As for the money spending, better a team like Man City than Arsenal, United, Liverpool or Tottenham. That would have really unbalanced things out. The big three became big four when Abromavic came in and now with the Dubai billionaires, I reckon we should make it a big Five. Until some other billionaire decides to invest.
