The Meeko - Week 4/5 - Footbo

Apologies for going AWOL, my company sent me to the Middle East and the firewall out there is a little more aggressive...

So it seems as though, once again, Wenger has proved the annual criticism of his lack of activity in the transfer market absolutely wrong! What a little gem Denilson is turning out to be; a hand in the 1st goal at Ewood, and a great assist and a goal against Bolton. Who needs Alonso! Bendtner looked really class against Bolton as well and it's good to see him coming on. With Da Silva due back from injury in a few months things at Arsenal look good and with the limelight off us so far this season I think its all set up for Wengers young guns to live up to their wondrerkid reputations. I'm so pleased Clichy only suffered bruising from the hefty challenge Davis put in, he and Sagna are an integral part of Arsenal's counter attacking fluidity.
The big game over the last couple of weeks was no doubt last Sunday's clash between last years Champions League finalists. I enjoyed the game as it swept from end-to-end and i think both sides can be pleased. The only thing missing was a Darren Fletcher goal... Ronaldo proved his professionalism and played well for United. I'm sure he will continue in this form until the January transfer window! I was pleased to see Mike Riley once again acting with some common sense and although I think he failed to let the game flow at times I'm glad some of the bookings for dissent were dished out.
Liverpool will feel disappointed they couldn't see off Stoke, with or without the goal disallowed but what a good result they ground out to beat United the week beofre... will Pool's inconsistency be their downfall again? The Villains continued their rich form with solid wins against battling West Brom and Tottenham sides. Man City were unimpressive against Chelsea last week and looked uninspired and at times short in ideas (I think the FA had a tough decision to make on Terry's red card case, should it have been overturned?)  but easily made up for it this weekend as they romped home 6-0 against a Pompey side that completely capitulated. City were good however and Jo looks lke he's finally justifying his asking price. Possibly his goals in Europe has helped his confidence... I feel he could get even better.
I've once again been impressed with Hull Sunderland and Wigan, Hull will wish the premier league stops here... surely it can't carry on for them? And I should just add that I believe Guthries challenge was disgusting and the lad has no excuse, he should pay for all of Fagan's weeks out of football until he's fit again.
Roy Keane's Sunderland looked good away to an impressive Wigan side and then beat Boro 2-0 at the weekend to complete a good week. Chopra looked lively but i think the team's strength is in their defence; McCartney is a great signing and Nosworthy continues to improve. I don't think I need mention Spurs... The only thing they could do right at the moment is not to sack Ramos. For once (even if I think he makes some odd decisions) try and keep a manager and things might come round.
Finally, Europe was again privy to some footballing lessons as nearly all our clubs were victorious, although Villarreal looked competent. I still think that Real Madrid will be the team to take the Champions League crown this year though and for some reason I feel a certain German side causing an upset!!

PS - thanks to Dan K for the kick up the ***

I take my criticism against denilson back. The kid is on explosive form, however his passing in the middle of the pitch can still use a slight bit of improvement and im sure that will come in thru experience.

I am annoyed of Liverpool's inconsistency! It's every year the same, and I don't get the problem. Perhaps is Benitez to often changing the first 11. Or do you have another explanation? I am relly interested in your last sentence, who and what did you mean with your german side causing an upset, and why do you think will Real Madrid win the CL? Great Blog!

glad to have read the next installment of the Meeko, even though there is something painful about reading the successes of arsenal during these tough times for my beloved tottenham. its gonna take some time for spurs' prima-donas to realise that they need to play as team and not "individual stars" before they will chalk-up a win. my breath is being taken away by man city right now. after watching them destroy portsmouth, i am beginning to wonder if there will even be any need for them to spend gazillions in order to break the top 4. PS - no worries for the kick up the ***! just keep them coming and i wont have to!

Man City have got confidence at the moment, thats for sure but I feel that will only take them so far. To really battle the big boys they'll need to strengthen in the centre of midfield, whilst their youngsters are good the big premiership teams can boss a midfield and this is where I think City will need to bolster come January. Possibly someone like Senna... as for the German side I think Werder could be a team to cause an upset in the CL after they confidently took FCB apart in their own back yard. Real remain my tip to win it... I just think with all the pressure on the Emglish sides someone else will pop up and take it.
