Founded in 1967 as a merger of two local clubs, Trabzonspor is one of the most known Turkish football club. The club plays from the Black Sea port city of Trabzon and plays in the Turkcell Süper Lig (Turkish Premier Super League). Trabzonspor’s nicknames Bordo-Mavililer ( Bordeaux -Blues) and Karadeniz Firtinasi (The Black Sea storm) are most suitable and apt for the club. The club shot to limelight when they upset Liverpool in a champions league match in 1976 and went on to become a force to reckon with in domestic structure winning many league titles and the prestigious Turkish cup. Along with three other Istanbul clubs known as ‘big three’ (Galatasray SK, Besiktas JK, Fenerbahce SK), they are the only club outside of Istanbul to have won the Turkish title, earning a name as the ‘big four’.
