Korean Republic nicknamed as Taegeuk ( Tigers ) or Red’s was reinstated in 1948 under the Korea Football Association following the establishment of Republic of Korea. In the same year the association affiliated with FIFA. In fact, 1948 turned out to be a very important year for South Korea as they also made their international debut at the Olympic Games in London. In mean time they got affiliated with the Asian Football Confederation in 1954. Since 1950, South Korea emerged as a major football force in entire Asia as they went on to win all prestigious Asian Football championships which includes the Asian Cup in 1956 and again in 1960.
