Description

Red Star Belgrade(Also known as Crvena Zvezda) is the most succesfull Serbian club, with 25 league titles and 22 cup titles won. Red Star Belgrade is also the only Serbian club to have won a UEFA competition, having been victorious in the 1991 European Cup final. They are the most popular football club in Serbia along with Partizan Belgrade. Red Star Belgrade was founded in 1945 as a part of the Sport Society "Red Star" . It won its first title in 1946 in a Serbian league football tournament, which was supposed to decide the Serbian competitors for the Yugoslav league, while in 1951, Red Star won its first league trophy in its history. From then on, Red Star went on to win 25 titles in its history. The club made its reputation in the world thanks to its fast, attacking play(which was, in that time, one of the main qualities of Yugoslav football) and during the 1970s and 1980s enjoyed a great spell of dominance, which was crowned in 1991 when Red Star went to claim the European Champions cup, beating Olympic Marseille on penalties, and the Club World Cup, beating Colo-Colo in Tokyo. It was also the first team from Serbia which participated in the newly formed Champions League( European Cup's replacement) as the title defender, but because the team had fallen apart because of the war, the team made little impact there. Red Star got back to the international scene with all the previous results erased so Red Star was forced to be treated as a begginer team. Today, Red Star still enjoys a great reputation among the football world, and utter devotion from its legions of fans.
