The club was also the founding member of the Premier League in 1992. Middlesbrough FC was initially formed by cricket players who had won the FA Amateur Cup in 1895 and 1898. They turned professional in 1899 and later won a promotion to the First Division.   The club moved   to the Ayresome Park in 1903. After they finished 6 th place in 1907-08, they slipped to the 17 th position two seasons later. In 1913, the club reached 3 rd position.   They finished the 1919–20 season in mid-table as they were not able to replicate their previous performances. For the next few seasons, they remained in the First Division but were relegated in 1923-24; however they won the Division Two title after three seasons. During that season, debutant George Camsell achieved a record of 59 league goals that included nine hat tricks. Their tenure in the top position lasted for only one season and the club were relegated again However in 1928-29, they were promoted after they won the Second Division title.   After World War II, Middlesbrough were not able to regain the form of previous seasons and endured an early exit in the FA Cup. Eventually, poor performance led to the team’s relegation in 1953-54. Over that period, Boro kept achieving reasonable results   in the Second Division but were never serious contenders for promotion. After a fourth place finish in 1962–63, Boro endured a steady decline and in 1966 were relegated to the Third Division for the first time in their history. Due to the efforts of manager Stan Anderson, the club returned to the second flight and managed to stay in the top nine for the next eight seasons. With the   appointment of Jack Charlton as a manager in 1974, the club managed a return to the top flight. Boro earned promotion and with eight games still left, they became champions, finishing with a record 65 points.   The team also faced some reasonable cup success and in 1975-76 they won their first silverware by winning the Anglo-Scottish Cup after a two-legged final win over Fulham . During the mid-80s, Boro were faced with severe financial difficulties and performance wise they finished 19 th during the 1984-85 seasons. The financial strains during 1986 forced the club to borrow £30,000 from the PFA. The last game of the season saw Middlesbrough again being relegated to the Third Division. The club did not have the £350,000 capital that was needed to be deposited for the Football League registration. However, Steve Gibson, a member of the board, helped to bring in a consortium and the team completed their registration with the Football League for the 1986–87 seasons. In 1986 there was a change of the official company name. The club was now named the Middlesbrough Football and Athletic Club Ltd.   Boro gained consecutive promotions to Division Two and Division One over the next two seasons. Middlesbrough was one of founder members of the FA Premier League in the 1992–93 season. In 1994, Bryan Robson took charge and helped Middlesbrough to gain national attention. However, the team endured   a difficult 1996–97 season and   suffered defeat against Blackburn .   They were relegated again. Around the same time, the club managed to enter the finals of the League cup and FA Cup but unfortunately lost on both occasions.   The 2003–04 season became the most successful season in the history of the club. The club won a major trophy after defeating Bolton by 2-1 in the League Cup final. Their League cup success also ensured that Boro got an entry in the UEFA Cup for the first time. Two seasons later, on 27 April 2006, Middlesbrough reached the UEFA Cup final in Eindhoven, following two comebacks from 3–0 down. Unfortunately, the team lost 4–0 to Sevilla . Following the defeat, McClaren resigned and left to to manage England team while captain Gareth Southgate accepted the job as his successor.   League Table This Season   Total Games Played: 15 Games Won: 2 Games Draw: 5 Games Lost: 8 Total Points: 11
