It is accepted that playing football in Ankara was occured in 1917. The first football clubs were found in 1920 and the names of the new teams were Sultani Training Land,Ankara Training Land, Anatolian Art Power, Bahriye Power. The founders of these clubs consisted of soldiers and students. Although there was a war in those years in Turkey,Playing football was not interrupted and was continued. Before an official league was established, games had been played only on fridays at Cebeci. At Cebeci ground not only football games but also javelin throw was played. Ankara Football Union decided to establish an Official League called League of Ankara in 1921 and the first official game was acted on 26 October 1922 between Anatolian Art Power and Tali. The name of our team and the colours of the team have an interesting story. There was a team called Sultani with the other name “Ankara High School” and in this team some talented players were put out of the squad and they got so angry with the coach.One of these players was called Asım and his father was a member of the Turkish National Assembly. They told all the developments to Asım’s father and he decided to establish a team by using his power in the Assembly and the name of the team was called GENCLERBIRLIGI like the official name of our team and the meaning of the name is “Union of Youngs”. It was registered with this name. Briefly we can say that our club GENCLERBIRLIGI was found with this event in 14 March 1923. After they had decided the name of the team they had to decide the colour of the team. They went to a shop in Karaoğlan Bazaar and they could find only one jersey for the team and it was RED & BLACK. So that the name of the team and the colours had already decided as GENCLERBIRLIGI and RED&BLACK. The Legend was born in 14 March 1923...
