Brøndby IF was the result of a merger between two local Brøndby clubs—Brøndbyvester IF and Brøndbyyoster IF—in 1964. The club played its first premiership match in 1982. It has won 10 national Danish football championship titles and five national Danish Cups, since it joined the Danish Superliga in 1981. Brøndby has had the most success at the continental level. It was the first Danish club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, during the 1998-99 tournaments. Currently, the club is taking part in the Danish Superliga 2007-08 tournaments.
