Along with Aston Villa and Everton, Blackburn Rovers were the founder members of the Football League and the Premier League. The Football Club that was established in 1875 and by 1888 they became a founding member of the Football League. On 18 December 1875, the first match was played at the Lancashire Church which resulted in a draw (1-1). During the 1876-77 seasons, the Rovers finally managed to own a ground on the Preston New Road .   The club won their First FA Cup by 5-1 on 1 November, 1879 in a match against Tyne Association Football Club. But eventually, they were left away in the third round after facing a defeat by 6-0 against Nottingham Forest . Their FA Cup feat was again repeated on 25 March, 1882 when the club won their finals against Old Etonians. The club also made a remarkable performance on 29 March 1884 against Queen's Park F.C and went ahead to win the FA Cup at the Kennington Oval. The club won the trophy against Sheffield with left forward William Townley scoring three goals and thereby achieving a hat-trick in the F.A. Cup final.   During the 1890-1891 seasons, the Rovers won the F.A. Cup against Notts County F.C. and this success marked a beginning of a lean period for the club. Blackburn Rovers faced enough struggle during the beginning of 20 th century but slowly things started improving and Rovers became the League champions in 1912 and 1914. Though the Rovers remained at mid-table position, they were finally delegated along with Aston Villa in the 1935-36 seasons. They struggled for the next 2 seasons and were relegated again during the 1947-48 season.       The Rovers made a comeback to the Second and Third Divisions during 1970s and won their Third Division title in 1975. They also emerged as runners up in the Third Division in 1980 and have remained at the top slots of the English League. The era of 1970s and 1980s brought frustrations in the team, but the period from 1991-94 saw the team’s efforts to get into the top slot in the football rankings. Though early exits from the FA Cup, UEFA Cup and League Cup were depressing but the team displayed a remarkable performance with Manchester United to win the Premiership title. The Rovers made a bad start in the 1995 season and remained at the bottom half for most of the season. Though they fought hard for a comeback during 1999-00, the club marked their first season back in the Premiership with a tenth-place finish in 2001-02.   League Table this season   Games Played: 15 Games Won: 7 Games Lost: 3 Games Draw: 5 Total Points: 26.
