Besiktas Istanbul otherwise named as Besiktas Jimnastik Kulubu was founded with the name of Besiktas Bereket Gymnastics Club in March 1903 when modern Turkey was not born yet during the Turkish Ottoman Empire of sultan Abdul Hamit. The Arabic calendar was being used in Ottoman Empire and 1319 is the foundation year of Besiktas in Arabic calendar, which is the year 1903 in modern calendar. Although those were the days when all the club and sports activities were forbidden, 26 young people came ahead and founded the club.
