Currently, the club has branches for football, ice hockey, and handball. All teams, corresponding to their respective sport, compete in the top division of the Danish League. The regional bank Spar Nord sponsors the football and handball teams of the club. Since 1987, the football club has been part of the Danish Superliga. It was credited with two championship titles in 1995 and 1999.
The 1928-29 seasons found AaB at the top of the Danish leagues. In 1947, it suffered relegation. It went to the top again in 1963, and has been a part of the Danish Football Championship ever since except in 1972 and 1978 and also between 1981 and 1986. Although it spent several years in the Danish championship, it did not win a single championship title. However, it gets the credit of winning the Danish Cup in 1966 and 1970.
In the 1990s, the club won two Danish championships—the only two in its history. In the 1994-95 season of the Danish Superliga, it was lucky to have on its side Erik Bo Andersen, who scored 24 goals and became the league top scorer. Erik Bo Andersen's goals secured the championship title for the team.
The club tried to qualify for the UEFA Champions League in 1995-96 but was unable to do so. Luckily for it, Kyiv, which had qualified, had to be eliminated due a bribing scandal in which it had gotten involved, and AaB got their place. Thus, the club became the first Danish team to compete in the UEFA Champions League.
After the UEFA Champions League, Erik Bo Andersen left the club, and Soren Frederiksen turned out to be a worthy successor. Although he was not the league’s top scorer, he did score 17 goals in the Danish Superliga 1998-99, which the club won. The team faced Kyiv once again in 1998-99 while trying to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, but this time, it was unable to qualify.
Since then, the club has retained its position in the top half of the Superliga. It earned fourth place in the 2001-02 and 2004-05 seasons. It finished third in the 2006-07 season, its best finishing position since the 1999 championship. AaB also qualified for the 2007-08 Intertoto Cup.
AaB’s home stadium has been Aalborg Stadion or Energi Nord Arena since 1920. It was inaugurated on July 18, 1920. In 1927, the first spectator seats were built, and in 1937, a wooden terrace for 3,000 standing spectators was built. The stadium was destroyed in a fire during 1960. In 1962, the club constructed a new stadium. Recently, the stadium has been enlarged. It can now boast modern facilities and a roof over all of the spectator stands. The current stadium has a capacity to hold 16,000 people.
The stadium consists of four stands—two long-side stands and two end stands. The two long-side stands are called the Nordjyske Stand and the Sonofan Stand. Formerly, the Sonofan Stand was called Siemens Stand. The two end stands are called the Spar Nord Stand and the Faxe Kondi Stand.
