Rafael van der Vaart, born on 11 February 1983 in Heemskerk started playing football at a very early age. At the age of ten, he joined prestigious Ajax Amsterdam . Though he was a talented football player, he was initially allowed to join the team on trial basis only and a week later, he was allowed to stay with the Amsterdam team for good. Rafael van der Vaart made his first appearance in Ajax first team at the age of 17.
