Description

David Sergio Trezeguet was born on 15 October 1977 in Rouen, France. He is of French-Argentine descent and his early years were spent in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. Soccer runs in his blood and his father Jorge Trezeguet who was also a soccer player who played in Argentina and France. He moved with his family to Argentina from France at the age of two. He started his professional career in Argentina when he started playing for the Argentine club Platense in 1994. He returned to France soon after when he was signed on by AS Monaco in 1995.

"Trezegol"

His first two seasons from 1995–97 was nothing very special. He played nine games, scoring no goals. From 1997 to 2000 his exploits on the field made him noticed. He scored a total of 52 goals in 92 appearances. In 1997, during the European Championship, he scored for Monaco, the fastest goal in terms of speed in UEFA Champions League history in an important match against Manchester United.

He signed on with his current club Juventus in 2000 and has been playing for them ever since. He helped his club win two Serie A titles. However, the club was stripped of these two titles because of the 2006 match fixing scandal though the charges were never proved against the players. He is known among Juventus supporters as "Trezegol."

On 16 September 2006, before a match against Vicenza, Trezeguet was commemorated for his 125 goals in 207 matches for Juventus. After the match was over, his tally had come to 128 making him the highest scoring foreigner in the club’s history. On 20 December 2007, he became the sixth highest scorer for the club. If he reaches 161 goals, he will become the fifth highest scorer for the club. The renewal of his contract was not without controversy. After Juventus' final match of the 2006-07 season against Spezia, he turned towards the club’s president and made the number 15 with his hands. In Italian that meant that he was leaving the club. However, all ended well when Trezeguet renewed his contract with Juventus till 2011 despite interest from other clubs.

Iin 1997, he played in the FIFA world Youth Championships. He first started playing for France in 1998. He was a key player for France when it won the FIFA World Cup. In the European Championship in 2000, it was he who scored the golden goal against Italy in the final to give France the title.

The Love of France

He played again for France in 2002 and 2006 in the FIFA World Cups and Euro 2004.In March 2004, he received a great honor. He was named one of the top 125 living soccer players in the world. Along with Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka, Trezeguet is considered to be among the best forwards in the world. All three players play for France. He has so far scored about 34 goals in about 70 matches for France.

The final of the 2006 FIFA world Cup against Italy was a disappointing one for Trezeguet. The match went into extra time after a 1 to 1 tie and he was the only player from either side to miss a penalty kick. Italy won 5 to 3.

In October 2007 he was in news when he threatened to quit the team after overlooked by the manager for the Euro 2008 qualifying matches. His place in the team was taken by a 19-year old striker named Karim Benzema, currently the top scorer in the first League with nine goals under his belt.

Though Trezeguet is such a brilliant player, he has often been criticized because he has gone off the field at crucial moments of matches. But when he is on the field, everything is forgotten because of his agility and his capacity to get the ball past the goalkeeper.
Last year, he stated he would like to play again in Argentina where he began his career. He said that he would play for Boca Juniors if he received a suitable offer. In the current season, he has so far scored 13 goals in 18 matches.

Trezeguet is very good friends with Barcelona's Thierry Henry. They became close when both were playing for Monaco. Trezeguet has often stated that Henry was his mentor. Recently, again there were rumors that Arsenal was prepared to pay an astonishing amount to lure him to their club. This was presumably to prevent his close friend Thierry Henry from leaving Arsenal. There were proved to be only rumors and Henry left anyway and joined Barcelona.
He is married to Beatrice and they have a son named Aaron.
