That is absurd. To be fair, when Benitez pulled Gerrard back to play ALONGSIDE Lucas (as Mascherano was injured) and instead played Kuyt behind Torres it worked rather well, as we had Riera and Benayoun on the outside. This tactic however isn't going to work against the best teams, as Gerrard is wasted playing too deep for the entire match. Him coming back to pick up the ball and orchestrate play is different from being positioned back beside Lucas. And @kevinchris, Mascherano is one of our best players and the fact that ANY European giant would kill to have him in their squad makes him irreplaceable.

i meant replacing lucas with riera ..we have never had problems against the best teams we suffered draws against weak teams ...i fear history may repeat if the same tactics are used .........i can be wrong but .......i may be speaking the fact also ...........
