Match Analysis
After the criticism of the team following the victory at
Fulham
(yes,
I said 'victory') it was gratifying to see the
Arsenal
put on a five star performance against Olympiacos at the
Emirates
.
Arshavin had been less than fully fit against Fulham and again Olympiacos he looked weary at times. So much so, I was yelling for him to be replaced! Then he
goes
and scores with one of the most audacious flicks of all time and that's not to mention the way he buzzed about when he got a second wind. The Russian is a phenomenon!
Cesc was getting back to his best too, setting up Arshavin and supplying
Eduardo
, who crossed for
Robin van Persie
to prod home the opener. Yes, Cesc was guilty of about 4 stray passes and perhaps he does still try to hit a defence splitting pass when simply keeping possession would be a wiser option. But Cesc doesn't often lose the ball in crucial areas, so he should be forgiven for that.
Clichy's back at the races too, which is equally gratifying, given some of his abject displays of late.
In fact, the whole team deserve credit, especially Mannone for making decent saves when called upon and keeping another clean sheet!
Song deserves some praise for his industry and the fact that he's beginning to look worthy enough to play alongside Cesc in central midfield.
I might even go as far as to praise Diaby for not being as much of a liability as usual!
