Let the games begin!

We've arrived in China now for the Olympic Games proper and our preparation so far has gone well. We arrived in Hong Kong last week for a warm up tournament featuring Holland, Ivory Coast and the USA. I started the first game against Holland and slowly the team started to get into the rhythm of the game. We lost 2-0, which we're not too worried about. It's better to lose in a warm up after all!

I picked up a dead leg after about 70 minutes, so sat out the game against the USA as a precaution, which we won 1-0. The conditions throughout the tournament were quite tough, because the weather was so humid. It was very tiring playing in the heat too, but we feel stronger and the group is bonding very well.

In some time off, we took the opportunity to see some of the sights of Hong Kong, which is a place I've fallen in love with. For someone who likes a sharp suit, Hong Kong is perfect. I need another suitcase to bring my clothes back!

We're now in China and our first game of the Olympics is against Korea on Thursday - I know, I know the Olympics opening ceremony is on Friday, but our tournament gets underway before then. After Korea, we face Honduras, who I don't know much about and Italy, who I do know. It should be a good group, but I think if we play to our strengths and show some composure in front of goal, we will get through the group.

I'll keep you guys posted of how things go.

Alex

Nice post Alex, keep it up son, and if you're interested in getting some regular games under your belt next season- there could be no better home for you other than Pride Park (that's Derby County's home ground in case you hadn't realised- we're MASSIVE... in Derby). Seriously though, get your agent to give Paul Jewell a call!

Thank you for sharing with us your experience. It is highly appreciated for us, football fans, to receive information straigh away from a player like you, rather than from the press. I hope your leg is totally healed so you can play the game against Korea. Good luck!

I'm ecstatic as a die-hard Gooner that the first professional footballer active on Footbo is the young and exciting Alex Song!!! This can only cement the growing status of this site as the international social network for people who love the world's most popular and beautiful game (mySpace for soccer!). Hearing directly from the player is so much more valuable than the press, I am glad you have seen the advantages of being able to interact directly with fans and I hope you are the first of many other savvy players!!! If you don't mind me asking, how did you hear about the site? GL in China, and get that leg all healed up ASAP! I have been following you since you signed for Arsenal and my personal opinion is that you are exactly the player to partner Cesc in the center of midfield this season for Arsenal. You can be to Cesc what Senna was to Xavi (and Cesc a little too) in the Euro; the perfect compliment. A strong, intelligent, dominant, and tactically astute defensive holding player who through his work allows the space, time and freedom for a sensational playmaker like Cesc to flourish. Le Boss is very rarely mistaken in his player evaluations, and the confidence that he has shown in you along with the games I have seen you play over the last 2-3 years (ACN, Charlton, Olympic qualifiers, etc) leads me to believe that you have the opportunity to assume the mantle left by Gilberto and become a mainstay at The Emirates for many years to come. We are all behind you, good luck and keep us posted! Gooners!!!

Even though you play for Arsenal, I am really excited that a player is taking the time to communicate with fans. Thank you, and I look forward to reading more about your time in Beijing. Oh, and be careful you don't bring too much luggage back with you ;-)
