Tomorrow is the UEFA CUP final in Istanbul. Who cares? According to the interest of the media and my football fanatic friends around me, not many. One could argue that whoever is in the final deserves to be there and even if it is Shakhtar Donetsk and Werder Bremen. At the same time the game (at least on paper) shows that the UEFA Cup is pretty much dead in terms of its importance. Bayern Munich and Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer (I just love to always mention Bayern in my blogs, even if they are about football in Ghana) once called it the "Looser Cup" and while our friends at the UEFA might not like to hear this, it might be very true. All the really interesting teams are in the Champions League, so it often seems that even the teams in the UEFA Cup are not that motivated to win.
Tomorrow I will be cheering for Werder Bremen because I have a lot of respect for the team, although they had a bad year. I like Diego who might come to Bayern next season, Naldo and even Frings. And I am also cheering fro Bremen, because (excuse my ignorance) I know nothing about Shakhtar Donetsk. May the best team win.
