Ryan Giggs Manchester United 2008/09

While we had gone in today’s match as underdogs with the entire United community predicting a draw or a loss, the show that our lads put up was exemplary. We not only dominated the game but showed a character and strength that made me feel proud to be a supporter of such a club. However, not all good things are meant to last. So when Matkin Atkinson the match referee gave a clean tackle marked as foul and awarded Chelsea a free kick that went on to be scored, I along with millions of Red Devil fans was shattered.

We ruled the first half in terms of possession with over 56% of it in our favour. Sir Alex seemed to have come up with a strategy to keep a strong midfield that would see only Rooney left to move up front and the rest of the team provide support. However, with Berba on the Bench and Nani and Anderson given the task, it was not to be seen. Anderson indeed seemed to be sucked up by some invisible black hole where he was nowhere to be seen when he was actually needed. The opportunity created by Rooney who passed the ball to Giggs only to be passed to Ando and missed was one of many. Despite all of that, we kept the pressure high on Blues.

Another point that was proved in today’s game was that Berbatov is indeed a class player and his absence was felt more than once in today’s game. Every opportunity that Rooney created, was somehow perfect for the classy Berba, who was probably left feeling the same on the bench. The midfield was probably the best one in this season. Also Brown and Evans did a pretty good job to tackle a dozing Dogba. Valencia kept Cole held up at the back.

The second half saw some great counter attacks from Chelsea, however we kept hustling. We faltered but we came back. All in all we were just an inch away from taking 3 points time and again, however, fate had something else in store. Referee Atkinson books Fletcher for a foul tackle (which was indeed dubious) in the 75 minute. The free kick awarded was very nicely headed for a goal by John Terry. Not only that, the smart referee booked Rooney for run of play as he argued after the goal was scored. All this for something that was not a foul from any angle to begin with. Well done Atkinson!

While the support from the referee was expected to be very minimal ever since the Alan Wiley comment from Fergie, however, this was indeed height of such a negligence. Here is to the hollow victory of Chelsea and to the pride of Mancunians!

we deserved a win, a draw, or even a penalty. carvalho deserved a red card, and drogba deserved a booking for his antics. not to mention the lampard hand-ball... i mean, come on ref, play a fair game for football's sake!!
09.11.2009 06:37
Huh, you are askin' ref to play a fair game for football's sake. If they really had done that from the beginin' of the season then Man U won't have even reached to the current position they are @ the moment. You forgot the match with Arsenal and ManCity. And, yesterday's match, i think Evans deserves the red card 1st. Chelsea deserves the win more than ManU and they proved that. Cheers to all Chelsea and all their fans, incl. Me.
09.11.2009 08:25
youre shittin me right? if evans had seriously connected drogba wudve had a boken rib... it was just a brush... drogba the faggot over reacted... what about the penalty huh? and come on! all the refs like the london clubs to succeed. chelsea wudnt have got anywhere without the ref... we cudve won the match 2-0 yesterday. rooney was given offside(when ashley cole played him on), a penalty waved away, and ur goal came from a freekick that never shud have happened(where drogba interfered with play, not to be given offside. OH! and btw need proof dat refs play chelsea on? realtime facts and stats show that since 2003, chelsea have scored more offside goals than any other club in the league... well done obrevo!
09.11.2009 08:32
oh,and drogba even fouled wes during the goal... but chelsea fans would not notice... coz in their minds, pulling down players and elbowing them on the head is an important part of the game... that is how much they understand football... sheesh!!!
09.11.2009 10:32
Oh seriously wind ya necks in man u ,raped by liverpool and beaten fairly by chelsea! just face it...without your filthy diving scumbag ronaldo you just aren't good enough!!!
09.11.2009 10:40
raped by pool, yes... but fairly? jim, get on the pitch please, cuz wen it comes to football rules, ya know pretty less... btw, how good is pool without xabi... atleast we been losing to the top 4...
09.11.2009 12:41
Oh come on !! Talking about refs ...When the same refree, Martin Atkinson, awarded 7 min of added time against Manc City (till Owen scored the winner), i didnt see Sir Alex or any Man Utd player complain about bad decisions....
09.11.2009 15:29
Sam maybe you did deserve something from Sunday's encounter...but guess what u lost 1-0 and thankyou Mr.Terry for scoring it! At the end of the day Man U will complain when they are unfairly treated well its a taste of your own medicine. So sit back, shut up and take your losses like a man. Were all sick of hearing u winge like a child girl sissy!
09.11.2009 17:19
kalyan, go check the new rules dude... extra stoppage has to be played when there are stoppages in et, but check the man city VS man utd review page, i agreed that we wre lucky to get 3 points... i know im whinin like ronaldo, but yall havta admit that it was an unfair game...when it happened last year in the bridge, everyone stood up to take notice, now, its happened again, and everyone is playing it down. bad refeereing might just help us in the next game, but its not how id like to win, and its definately not how i would want to see the beautiful game bein played... i got 37 calls from chelsea fans aftr tomm. night, and all of them were proud of the way their team played(some even said they were the better team whole 90 mins, and they dominated us lyk barca did)...and its kinda sickening... dunno if im wrong with my views, but thats how i feel... and yeah, in the end all you can really do, is get up, brush the dust off, nd move on.
09.11.2009 17:51

10.11.2009 16:13
Are you guys still going on about this game...its old news. Sam ur actually boring me now. Plus MrChelsea he is not the only one who knows the rules at all, you dont speak on behalf of the specail 11 (chelsea that is) .... Anyway lets carry on with the rest of the season still along way to go and we cant afford to take our foot off the gas. We all know man u are not out until almost the last games. I will just say this best chelsea side for a couple of years and if we win when we play bad, i feel sorry for the other 19 teams when we play good. prediction: chelsea lift the cup! :D
10.11.2009 17:23
prediction? man united lifts the cup... chelsea slows down cuz of the african cup of nations(which is a tad bit unfair for em...) fergie nd his men make it 4 in a row...
11.11.2009 02:07
Agree with u Wayne ...not only sam but every \man utd fan is a hypocrite they remain happy when theywin but .......whn they lose they have thr mighty reasons abt their loss........lets move on and leave this sickle fan ..away and i was just tryn to taunt him and said tht he knows all the rulz.........
11.11.2009 05:16
mr chelsea, hw hav u forgotten last years cl semi final, 2nd leg so easily, huh? and i know the rules better coz i have been a junior level coach(two years, prior to this), and a local official(linesman) during football tournaments.... i try to keep myself up to date. and hypocrisy is what chelsea fans are showing after embracing victory so proudly after saying last year, that it is shameful for any darn team to win because of the ref.

@ Sam banerjee Hey fucktard you say when Evans kicked Drogba it was a just brush? think again dumbass because it was CLEARLY NOT a brush and btw he got kicked in the chest not in the ribs so couldnt have possibly broken a rib. Might want to re-consider your thoughs drogba actually "pulled" out of world cup qualifiers against Guinea because he was "struggling to move" dont believe me? http://goal.com/en/news/1647/wcq-2010-africa/2009/11/11/1617964/didier-drogba-pulls-out-of-ivory-coasts-world-cup-qualifier and and and why is it whenever Man U loses fergu happens to be "fuming" at the refs.. its coz he cant take it when they lose.its starting to become a cliche lol you might want to google "sir alex ferguson fuming" which proves my point
11.11.2009 14:33
oh sam we better select you as the head reff of FA refs panel ....lol.......u said u were a lines man u dumbass just could be a lines man ...........and nothing more!
11.11.2009 18:03

11.11.2009 18:05

12.11.2009 05:52
mrchelsea, mrchelsea... ur just putting up a rotten exampleof chelsea fans. no respect for other football fans, no self belief, or esteem(why else wud u start abusing?)... and very less knowledge. i just hope ur an exception coz its people like you who ruin this game.... i can abuse u all i like here(in about 3/4 languages!), but i wont, coz i dont want to ruin this site's environment, and i have respect and honor for the game, which you dont seem to have... if i was a chelsea fan, or any other clubs fan, id stop this guy. coz hes making a very bad image for himself, and those around him...
12.11.2009 08:43
Oh great!!.. You guys are still on that match..... Bottom line is Chelsea WON.. Man U LOST....no one is going to remember the details..... and @Sam, enough is enough dude, both team played rough, both were aggressive on more than one instance, one team came on top..THATS IT!!....Please stop whining its really pathetic......one thing is certain, ManU fans act like sore loosers..they cant digest a defeat...Typical!!

Sam, Sam, Sam listen here assface firstly, im not shitting you secondly, 5 minutes stoppaged time was given, the same ref who gave 7 mins against man city thirdly, the ball hit lampards unintentionally and it would've been a free kick not penalty fourthly, the incident with drogba occured around the 73rd minute and played for 10 minutes before being replaced by kalou 83rd minute and also drogba could have easily played the rest of the game. Its called adrenaline rush and the injury will start to kick in when your body starts to relax and will also get stiff. Clear example is when Torres admitted to play with groin injury against man U and scored when he owned Ferdinand and liverpool won 2-0.

12.11.2009 14:18
yeh..........whoever win........doesn't matters........but the game should be interesting...........with PEACE...............
12.11.2009 14:23
btw, torres is a superb player, dnt compare him to drogba, nd he played with painkillers that day... and chelsea still aint winning the league,in my book. the african cup o nations will really hurt em... arsenal have had the best chance in 4 years to win the league, nd i think they r gonna take it this season... in the end, its arsenal or man utd(when hargreaves and obertan would join the first 11, wed be a much harder team 2 beat)..... good luck to everyone, and remember, it aint over, till its over.....

sam african cup of nations only last for 3 weeks and our african players will miss 4 prem league games against Hull city, sunderland, birmingham city and burnley respiectively so dont use ACN as an excuse as to why we'll drop epl possibel line-up during ACN Cech bosingwa, terry, carvalho, a. cole --------> + belleti, alex, ferreira and ivanovic on bench j.cole (for essien), deco, ballack --------> + malouda and yuri zhirkov on bench (ancelotti is after riberry) lampard anelka, new recruit (for Drogba!)-- we've been linked with sergio argeuro, D. Villa, Pato (no way we'll get him) OR push Lampard forward and deco CAM (Lamps position) and ballack play CM (Deco's position) and malouda playing at LM (ballacks position) forwards pretty limited but im sure following the suspension of the club's transfer ban we'll snap up a forward and also a massive blow with Lampard out for 6 weeks :O hope he can make it back b4 ACN. overall chelsea looks pretty solid on paper but its wether we can perform on the field so...dw blues fans, chelsea will still be as strong without our African players! Go Chelsea!! woooo
13.11.2009 09:36
hahaha.......sam u all man u fans is waiting to see drogba,essein.mikel.kalou to go to africa for african cup...............so much terror they have given to u all man u fans............hahaha............i think u also got bad nightmare..............hehehe
13.11.2009 14:18
one word. ESSIEN. chelsea are no good without essien. forget drogba, coz chels had beaten atletico 4-0 without him. essien is the only reason your fullbacks can attack. his calibre, composure cannot be matched by obi mikel. yall had lost to wigan wen he had a bad game. in the starting 11, essien is the only one who gives me nightamres....and chelsea looks very weak without him.... lets see, i might be wrong, and so can you, football is a wonderfully funny game.
