A Tight Affair
A Tight Affair

On a night when Wenger could have entered the history books by registering his 300'th league win as a manager, Arsenal flattered to decieve & left the gaffer wondering what could have been. With proceedings tighter than ever at the summit, nothing less than a victory was what the doctor ordered. 11G briefs an exciting yet not-so-thrilling stalemate..

Whilst Fabregas & Rosicky hit the wood-work on one occasion each, Arshavin attempted, but in vain, to conjure some of his fabled magic, yet the mean Villian defence lived upto its reputation. Going into the game, if Arsenal could boast  of being the leading goal-poachers across the continent, Aston Villa had in its ranks, the meanest defence in the British top league. A miserly 18 goals conceded all season put them at par with Chelsea. It's not that it was all Arsenal in yesterday's game. Villa did show some great attacking intent most notably in the form of Young & Downing, who could blame himself for not converting one of the two good chances he had. Heskey btw was one guy who could have ensured Villa never scored a goal, given his dismal record in fornt of the goal-mouth. Thank god he started for them!

Considering Chelsea won away at Birmingham, we can say it was 2 points lost on the league leaders. United, meanwhile narrowly defeated fellow Manchester rivals, City in another fiesty encounter at the Old Trafford. The point here is, it's United we face next, & it's Chelsea which soon follows. If Arsenal continue to not turn up in big games, like the one today, I'm afraid to reach out for conclusions in that case. Another setback we recieved in the game at Villa Park was the minor injury to Eduardo, which keeps him out of the game against United this weekend. Vermaelen also got himself injured, but his status is still unknown. Both Nasri & Bendtner were back though.

It's still long way to go Gooners, so cheer up. If we can somehow pull off victories in the next three, even two I daresay (but it must be United & Chelsea), then the title aspirations are on. Keep Gunning for now..

PS: Arsene, please buy a hit-man, we need pysical presence up there, especially before the Chelsea game.

A hit-man is needed and also a center back, now that Vermaelen is probably out for a bit. This is the time when the Arsenal season falters, because of the thin squad and big games coming thick and fast. Seems like it will be a 2 horse race again with Chelsea narrowly edging out United to win the title.

In yesterdays game Rositsky had two great chances to win the game for us, both when the keeper was out of position! Arsenal needs a strong striker up font somebody who can get the goals for us when it matters. In some stages of the game our build up play was superb but whe just lack that killer instinct in front of goal, something that has not been the case when Van Persie was stil around! Arsenal say they dont want to spend unnesasary money, but without another world class striker up front, Arsenal is not going to win the leuge any time soon! Lets just hope Arsenal can pull of two great victories over Man U and Chelsea!

@Akhil Surely those two are needed, given we are doing just about alright in the center of the park. But with Chelsea coming up, I'm afraid, even that trait of our's will be hugely undone. Fingers crossed..

@Johan If it were Robin, we would have killed both those chances. But Rosicky, given his crocked past, can be excused here. Same goes for Eduardo & Nasri. Infact this very reason can be the sole reason why silverware may elude us all over again this term. We have quality in our ranks, but almost all of them are coming off long-term injury set-backs. It takes time to settle down, thus buying a killer finisher up front, becomes all the more paramount.

Come on guys don't be hard on Rosicky, he's been brilliant since his injury comeback. On one of his chances he managed to hit the underside of the bar with so many guys blocking the goal and the second chance was purely Ramsey's fault who blocked Rosicky from taking a first time shot. I doubt Wenger will buy any players in this window, the only possibility can be Victor Moses since his club is in administration. Do you guys know what position Moses plays ? Walcott has been horrible since his comeback and Bendtner did not look too good either, but with Eduardo's injury, Bendtner will have to take up the main striker's role in these big games with Arshavin on the left and Rosicky on the right. Nasri and Walcott will be on the bench.

Moses plays up front & is an English U-19 hot-shot. And c'mon we are not being harsh on Rosicky, it's just that he is not playing to the levels he is capable of. Remember he was deemed the 'next Pavel Nedved' when he first came in!?
