Manchester United
and
FC
Barcelona
meet Wednesday night in what many are calling a "dream"
UEFA Champions League Final
.
At the center of the match will be a match-up of the top two superstars in the world, Man U's
Cristiano Ronaldo
, and Barca's
Lionel Messi
.
Ronaldo
's form has been inconsistent during the first half of the season but he's been
solid
the last few months. Most noticably, he scored the game-winning goal against
Porto
in the quaterfinals off a stunning 35 yard free kick. Lionel
Messi
has arguably been the best player this season and leads a Barcelona attack that cruised to the La Liga title. His playmaking ability and intelligent play makes up for his height and small size.
Both teams won their domestic league titles and could cap their season by lifting the Champions League trophy. Man United are the defending champions while Barcelona last won the title in 2006. With the league titles wrapped up, both teams were able to rest key players and have just about everyone available for the match.
The key to the match will be in if Manchester United can contain the Barcelona attack.
Chelsea
were able to frustrate Barca in the semifinals and the Spanis club was lucky to advance to the final. If Manchester United can contain Messi, Henry, and Eto'o, it will allow for counterattacking options from
Rooney
and Ronaldo. Both goalkeepers will be tested and another finish with penalty kicks is a very real option.
The last time the teams met in the Champions League, it was in last year's semifinals with Man Utd winning 1-0 on aggregate.
