Wonderful Historical Moment

Today I've watched 1966-1967 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Final. Bayern vs Rangers. The first European Trophy for my favourite club. There were three things that impressed me very much.

Fist of all, it's extraordinary atmosphere of the match. I've seen great matches and great fan support, and that match it was different. I can't say what exactly was it, but the crowd impressed me very much. Maybe I'm used to big stadiums, to well-organized fun support, don't know. It's was something special, not magnificent performance, but something simple and warm and really crazy in the same time.

Secondly, the way the footballers played. Well, it's the same story whatever old match I watch. Always, the same thoughts "oh, they did it that way", "they had no such rule at the time" or something like that. When I watched this match I thought "what are they doing with crosses?" Not accurate enough, not well-targeted, I feel like a lot of moments would be more dangerous if this match were played nowadays. Maybe it was only this match thing, but it seems more like it's the way everyone did it then. Anyway, it's the only thing I really didn't like.

In general, the match was great. At first I was worried a little 'cause Rangers dominated (and in such cases, when my team doesn't play good or wastes moments I usually become nervous even if I know the result, I think what if it was just a dream and the reality is awful and this will end badly). But in second half time everything improved. Bayern couldn't win before referee whistle, but they did win in extra time. Shortly after second half of exra time began, 'Bulle'  Roth scored. The crowd was ecstasized. Rangers tried to do something but fortunately they couldn't. So Bayern took its first trophy in Europe.

It's always good to watch a match with old Bayern stars like Müller or Beckenbauer. This time I was not  disappointed as well. The third thing which impressed me in the match (probably the most striking thing) is the performance of the great Bayern keeper Sepp Maier. He was so good, amazing, gorgeous. At the moments I thought something like "nobody but he could do it." I'm so glad I watched it.

PS. Today was the Day of the Draw. I'm glad Bayern will meet Fiorentina, they are strong now so we could see the strength level of our team, and they are not too strong, so we have a good chances to go in QF. I wish good luck to Stuttgart, hope they'll gain a good shape and will give a good battle for Barca. As for Liga Europa, the Draw was quite good for German teams, they have It's-OK-could-be-worse opponents.  The teams form my country can't complain as well, CSKA and Rubin got a really convenient opponents, maybe the most convenient of all possible. And we also have really great pairs such as Chelsea vs Inter, Milan vs MU or Ajax vs Juventus. Hope, we won't be disappointed.

Good blog!! I know what you mean and I long for the days when Bayern and Rangers can renew thir rivalry in a European final and not just dominate their respective domestic leagues. :-)

Nice one. I love watching those old recordings. Btw, convenient opponents are not so convenient when you're a russian side
