Arsenal 3-0 Tottenham - Gunners take Spurs back to school

Match Analysis
Throughout most of the first-half of yesterday's North London Derby, I was repetitively hearing football commentators saying how Tottenham were frustrating Arsenal; were preventing the Gunners from playing their football; and that perhaps, just maybe, the team was on the verge of really challenging for a top 4 place.

Music to my ears (and probably to every Spurs fan out there). I didn't agree with the statements – not fully in any case. Sure, the score at that point was still 0-0, and Tottenham were having the odd spell of knocking the ball about, but that was about it. Peter Crouch was up front on his own, with Robbie Keane reverting to a left-wing position. This unsurprisingly didn't work too well, and I don't really remember Spurs creating a great chance in the first-half apart from a David Bentley attempt to better his wonder-strike in the corresponding 4-4 result last season.

And I think it's fair to say that even though Arsenal were the better side (I am not going to dispute the fact they deserved to win), the game was decided in a two minute spell of just patheticness. Stay with me here: While Arsenal deserved to win, all of the goals were in part, down to Spurs lack of focus, or just laziness and Harry Redknapp should make sure to hold no prisoners when he shows his team a video of the match.

RVP's first goal was down to quick thinking by the Arsenal players - a quick throw, a quick cross, and a stab home. It's not that I don't appreciate Gomes in the Tottenham goal (he had made a great save to deny Fabregas a certain goal), but he really should have stopped the shot as the ball wriggled under his body into the back of the net.

Enter shell-shock.

Tottenham kick-off, probably upset that after a good battle in the first half, they would be going into the changing rooms a goal down. But what can I say about Wilson Palacios losing the ball straight away to Fabregas who just seemed to glide through the Tottenham team before firing home to give his side a two goal lead at the break.

Ok, so from a Spurs perspective, two goals down is very problematic, but not the end of the world. Afterall, we had come from 2 goals down against Arsenal to draw 4-4, and West Ham recently recovered from a similar deficit against the Gunners to claim a point. But, it was Arsene Wenger's team who came out fighting in the second half, as they attempted to put Tottenham to the sword and really embarrass their North London neighbours.

Arsenal's 3rd goal was pretty much inevitable, and while Spurs will probably complain and point fingers at the refereeing, they really only have themselves to blame. Most of the players stopped after the linesman flagged for a foul by Assou-Ekotto, but the referee immediately offered the advantage to the Gunners. While their players kept on going (remember the phrase: "Always play to the whistle"), the Spurs defenders just decided to stop, and were punished for it.

Not a good day to be a Spurs fan, and I just found it – I am not quite sure what the word is…perhaps "funny"…that even when the scoreline was Arsenal 3-0 Tottenham, the Spurs manager was sat in his chair in silence, while Arsene Wenger was throwing his suit jacket in fury, clearly angry that his side weren't 6 or 7 up… Gotta love him, and hate him.

Here's to hoping for a better performance against Sunderland next week.

Thank god i did not watch this match (i was on a business trip) i guess this pretty much ends any more talk about Spurs challenging for a top 4 place. With the exception of the Liverpool match, we got demolished 2 times by Chelsea and Arsenal. Allot is down to the fact that we lack any depth, our main eleven is good when they are fit, but currently all our key players are not fit. I Kind of expected a beating in this match to be honest...................lets just hope we can hold onto a Euro league place.

I was disappointed that Spurs never played their own game, they made it too easy for Arsenal. They better find form asap because more points dropped will take them off the pace. As for my Arsenal, I wouldn't say they were spectacular, they had good attitude for a derby match, but Spurs let themselves down more than Arsenal over powering them, Spurs just did not play, Redknapp needs to solve this problem.

@Stanley - spot on. I think that Huddlestone and Palacios were the main culprits and being poor in the middle of the park against Arsenal isn't so wise
