Tottenham - Transfer Window Deadline Day Rumours

The transfer window deadline is looming and clubs will be required to finalise any deals before 5 p.m. today.

In view of the last minute transfer rumours surrounding Tottenham Hotspur, it seems as if Harry Redknapp will revisit his former club Portsmouth once more to make some additions to his team. Here are some of the rumours:

Incoming Transfers

Martin Petrov
The news today is linking Spurs with a deal for Manchester City's Martin Petrov and is touting a swap deal involving "Spurs reject" David Bentley. The deal would seem to suit both sides, as Man City boss Mark Hughes would be happy to link-up with Bentley, who played under him at Blackburn before his move to Tottenham.

Niko Kranjcar
Harry Redknapp is looking to clinch a deal for Portsmouth's Niko Kranjcar following the recent injury to midfield dynamo Luka Modric, Kranjcar's Croatian international team-mate. Redknapp will be hoping that Modric and Kranjcar will be able to form a partnership at club level in the Tottenham midfield, but this development would put a question mark over Tom Huddlestone's future at the club, despite a solid start to the season by the young midfielder. Kranjcar was brought to Portsmouth by Redknapp and will cost the Lilywhites between £3million and £5million.

David James
Tottenham have been consistently linked with Portsmouth and England international goalkeeper David James. Harry Redknapp knows the player well, and with Huerelho Gomes a.k.a. the Octupus currently out injured. Tottenham's current starting goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini, a free-signing from Chelsea last season, has at times looked a little shaky, and the goal Tottenham conceded at the weekend against Birmingham has to go down as a goalkeeping error. With that in mind, HR is rumoured to be looking to bring in James, and increase Spurs's strength in goalkeeping depth. However, James himself has in the past committed numerous errors. It is unclear whether this transfer will actually come to fruition as Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy will be wary of paying a fee for James, who is 39 years old and would most likely require some sort of transfer fee.

Sandro
The Internacional and Brazilian midfielder is apparently a target for Spurs following the two clubs partnership link-up. Early reports claim that Tottenham failed with an initial bid of £14 million.

Outgoing Transfers

David Bentley
A move as part of a swap-deal involving Martin Petrov would see Bentley link up with his former manager, and help to kick-start his ailing career once more. The player is currently suffering both on and off the field (only a substitute at Tottenham and having recently received a one-year driving ban), and in World Cup year, any hopes of a call-up to the England squad for South Africa would be boosted by a move, as he is more likely to be given a starting berth at Manchester City.

Roman Pavlyuchenko
The Russian international striker is growing increasingly frustrated at his substitute's role at the club and has been rumoured to have submitted a transfer request. Roma have been linked with the player over the course of the summer but most recently, Zenit St. Petersburg have been linked with taking the player back to Russia for a fee reported to be in the region of £10.5 million.

The End Result

What do Spurs fans think about these transfers, both incoming and outgoing?
Will Tottenham fans be happy to see Bentley go?
How do Portsmouth fans feel about HR buying pretty much the entire Portsmouth team?

As always, happy to hear from anyone else with an opinion or rumour on transfer deadline day.

Happy to see Bentley go, dunno how good petrov and kranjcar will be but anythings better than nothing while modric is out. Most exited about kranjcar but I don't believe we need James, specially at such an age.

Do not really have a view about Petrov, i personally would think Bentley is worth at least him + money on top. To be honest i dislike the player (Bentley) so much that anything to get rid of him would be good at this point. About Pavluchenko, i think we have to admit he was another bad buy for us, with Defoe, Keane and Crouch, it is looking VERY unlikely he will start (unless there are injuries) 10m+ is still allot of money and i am afraid if we do not dump him now, in a year he will be worth less, I would go for that deal. If we could get Petrov + 12-15m combined for both of them, it could open up some doors for at least one quality signing, if not now, then in January. About James, i was never a fan, i see him as being a Cudicini, but just bigger and older. Not sure we should be spending money for a 39 year old, unless it is just 100-200k. I think getting Niko is good for us, he should settle in nicely with him knowing HR, plus being team mates with Modric and Corluka and at the price we are paying i think that is a good deal for us, will open up some options in midfield which we could do with. Got no idea who Sandro is, so cannot comment there either.

Here are 2 confirmed transfers i found, have not heard anything from the Spurs site though:Blackburn have completed the signing of Tottenham defender Pascal Chimbonda. The 30-year-old Frenchman has been brought in as a direct replacement for left-back Stephen Warnock, who has moved to Aston Villa for a fee believed to be around £7million.

Kevin-Prince Boateng has completed his move from Tottenham to Portsmouth on a three-year deal. The clubs were reported to have agreed a few of around £4million, and Portsmouth this afternoon confirmed on their official website that the deal has gone through.

@Chris - Nice news flash there! KPB deal was I think concluded the other day, but maybe just got finalized. I think it was at the same time that O'Hara signed for Pompey on loan...

Kranjcar is a good buy - he's a good player and was well priced - good piece of business that. I don't see him as a threat to Tom though Dan. When Luka is fit again Kranjcar will drop to the bench rather than Tom unless he outperforms him significantly over the next 6 weeks and Luka slots into centre mid. And let's not forget Jenas is coming back too - he may be more of a threat to Tom. Quite pleased we didn't get James (no improvement on Cudicini really) and strangely Chris i'm pleased we kept Bentley (for some reason i feel we are going to need him at some stage). So i'm happy with our squad - 4th place here we come.

@Stephen - I am happy with the Krancjar purchase....great price! I myself don't see Jenas as a threat to Tom. Think Tom needs to get a good run in the team, and while Jenas is a decent player, he hasnt been consistent enough for us. Whats this news about an Alan Hutton-Anton Ferdinand loan swap???
