It’s been almost two months since I returned to Manchester City and it’s been a pretty hectic period in that time.
I really value the time I spent at Chelsea, but I was thrilled to return to Manchester City for a number of reasons. What can I say apart from the fact that I just feel right at home here? The whole move happened so quickly and combined with the opportunity to be near my two kids, it wasn’t a difficult choice to make. I can say that a player appreciates the fans of whichever club they play at, but the fans at Manchester City are especially amazing and they also played a role in my decision to return.
Obviously I have come back to a different club: new owners, a different manager, and some different players in the squad. We have our aspirations for the season and I think everyone connected to the club was excited by the signing of Robinho. I don’t think anyone expected it, but it definitely had a positive impact and shows the direction the club wants to take. One of my personal achievements this season has been my recent recall to the England squad. To play for the national team is what every player hopes and dreams for, and now that I got back into the squad, it’s something that I need to keep focused on to make sure I stay there.
I really enjoy my football and am thankful that I have managed to achieve the dream to play professionally, but I also have learnt that it’s not the be-all and end-all in life. Playing football has helped me to raise awareness for causes that I am involved in, and I am honoured to be a patron for the charity Education for the Children. After a trip I made to Guatemala, I saw just how deprived some kids are, and it became really important to me to try and help, in any way that I can and I would really appreciate it if the fans here on Footbo would visit www.eftc.org.uk to find out more.
Thanks for reading, and I hope that I managed to give you some insights into my world.
