Arsenal's worst kept secret summer signing shines - & who do we want in the Champions League?
By 360footbal...

Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh scored the winner in the Champions League last night as Bordeaux beat Olympiacos 2-1.

What a header from Chamakh. It was an excellent cross lofted to the far post. But the power that Chamakh got in on his header defied description.

On that basis, you'd have to say Chamakh's going to be a big hit in the Premier League. He looks strong and powerful and, as we know, you have to have a certain physique to thrive in this country - where the game is played at a breakneck speed by ruthless bonebreakers.

Chamakh looks like he can handle that, which is good news for Arsenal...assuming he signs. Of course, we've heard he's already signed, but for Bordeaux's sake we have to pretend that we don't know about that.

I wish we were getting Yoann Gourcuff as well from Bordeaux, as he scored a great goal from a free kick and then hammered another one against the post.

I would really like us to meet Bordeaux in the Champions League quarter-finals and then have Lyon in the semis. Although the bookies say CSKA Moscow are the weakest team still in the competition, I'd rather not have a long trip to Russia...although of course it's better to go there this time of year when it's warming up.

I'm a bit sceptical of this signing. He has only really come into his own since the arrival of Gourcuff who has really ignited him and they have a really special relationship, who has those characteristics in the Arsenal team like that? Not sure we have such a player. Also his headers come from top quality crosses from wide areas provided by Chalme and Tremoulinas (who lofted the ball fro him yesterday and has over 10 assists this season). Tremoulinas in particular is a top quality crosser, be it on the floor or aerially, he always delivers, who will do that for Chamakh at Arsenal? Clichy and Sagna don't know what crossing means, and the team doesn't have top quality wingers. Also look at the other sides, Man Utd have Rooney, Chelsea have Drogba, Liverpool Torres, Arsenal need a killer striker. I don't count Van Persie because he is always injured, I don't think Chamakh will score as many as those other strikers.

I reckon Wenger thinks he can make Chamakh into a more lethal finisher. Look at Thierry Henry's goalscoring record at Monaco and Juventus before he came to Arsenal. It was much worse than Chamakh's. I take your point about wingers. Arsenal don't have natural wingers in the team, but on their day Clichy and Sagna can put decent balls in the box. Okay, they're not at Gourcuff's level, but that's why I hope we can sign him too! It's not looking likely though, unless we're prepared to splash out 20m Euros.

You say we don't have a natural winger in the side, well what's Arshavin.... He has the pace, control and accuracy to do the job. And have you forgotten Theo, I think he is more of a wide player, than a natural striker, again has the pace, skill and the shot that could make him a great winger. Arshavin can play either side and Walcott down the right. Lets face it, they could be a potent force, providing they both stay fit and well.
